WORMING

ROUNDWORMS

Puppies and kittens are often born with worms. By three weeks of age, worms may be present in the intestine and would begin to lay eggs which would then be passed in the motions.

The bitch or queen rearing the young may become infected from her litter. The infection is passed on by eating eggs from the motions of dogs and cats. The fact that worms are NOT seen, does NOT mean that the animal is worm free, because usually only eggs are passed and they are invisible to the naked eye. As the eggs take a few weeks to develop, prompt disposal of motions is advisable.

ROUNDWORM DOSING GUIDE

TAPEWORMS

Tapeworms are chains of segments full of eggs. Segments are passed in the dog's or cat's motions and look like slowly moving grains of rice.

Dogs and cats usually become infected by eating fleas, lice and wild animals. Control of fleas and lice is, therefore, important in reducing tapeworm infection.

TAPEWORM DOSING GUIDE

1. Tapeworm seen : 1 tablet per 10 kg. bodyweight.

Tablet may be given whole or crushed and mixed well in meat or butter. Repeat in one month.

2. Routine treatment : 1 tablet pet 10 kg. bodyweight every 6 months. tablet may be given whole or crushed and mixed well with meat or butter.

The tapeworms are usually digested and are, therefore, rarely seen in the motions following treatment.
